This week in London the highest stakes sorority rush I can ever remember is happening. This is, of course, the contest to win the Conservative Party’s pledge pin for Prime Minister, now that Boris Johnson is resigning.
Our Westminster correspondent, William Kedjanyi echoed that, “We are in a MEAN GIRLS situation, and the mean girls’ dream team is Kemi Badenoch and Liz Truss.”
What is their goal? Like yesteryear’s Regina George, it is to keep another woman out of power: Penny Mordaunt.
William continued that, “If you put their votes together, you can squeeze Mordaunt out of the final two.” This is a big deal because experts, like Kedjanyi believe that, “If she [Mordaunt] makes the Membership, I’d have her as favorite.”

WHO IS LEFT IN THE CONTEST?
The remaining candidates in the field are:
Rishi Sunak – The hot gigachad investment banker.
Lizz Truss – The clean cut, Hillary Clinton pantsuit type.
Penny Mordaunt – The elitist soccer mom who will be played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge in a future Oscar winning film.
Kemi Badenoch – The person with a very cool name who is unlikely to win.
WHAT ARE WE WATCHING?
William told SSG that a Tory Party leadership contest “is a lot like the floor of a convention… a lot of horse trading going around, people rushing across the floor to see who is backing who.”
The big question for Thursday’s final round is whether Badenoch and Truss will “team up” to prevent Penny Mordaunt from advancing to a nearly-inevtiable matchup with the favorite, Rishi Sunak.
Why do the Mean Girls disslike Mordaunt so much? Because “they are more Tea Party-er Tories” than Mordaunt, who is “more from the traditional establishment.”
